What Will My Gift Do?
The goal of the Fund in 2011-12 is to achieve a principal balance of at least $50,000. Once this goal is met, the Mission Endowment Fund will begin making annual distributions; also at this $50,000 principal threshold, 10% of any new gift is immediately given to ministry beyond the operating budget of the congregation, and the remaining 90% is added to the Mission Endowment Fund. Annual distributions may include interest and dividends received, realized gains, and/or unrealized gains. If the CTS Mission Endowment Fund ever exceeds $500,000 in value, each annual distribution should include a 10% distribution of the Fund corpus.
MEF distributions beyond the operating budget of this congregation will be given to ministry expressions as stated below:
- Minimum of 20% for outreach into the local community or synod as the Committee determines;
- Minimum of 20% for ELCA Churchwide ministries as the Committee determines;
- Minimum of 20% for the extraordinary programs/capital improvement or other ministry initiatives within this congregation;
- Remaining 40% distributed through any of the above categories.
Examples of outside ministries and missions that may be eligible to receive Fund distributions include:
- local agencies such as the Sister Carmen Center, the Boulder Homeless Shelter, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, and other agencies with a significant impact on the life of our community
- synod and churchwide ministries such as Lutheran camps, Lutheran Family Services, and Lutheran colleges and seminaries
- Lutheran global ministries and partnerships such as ELCA World Hunger, Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Immigration & Refugee Services.
